NYX Lip Lingerie Review

Shoppers Drug Mart was having a lippie BOGO offer Tuesday evening from 6-9pm so I decided to purchase two NYX Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks to try out! I had been eyeing a few shades and had swatched them in the store before. When I swatched them they lasted forever on my arm so I figured they would be a great long lasting nude liquid lipstick to add to my collection.

20170707_175511

20170707_181842The top color is shade 10 Teddy and the bottom is shade 04 Ruffle Trim.

These retail for $9.99, so with the BOGO promotion I got two for $10. The formula is very light one the lips and easy to apply precisely because the applicator is flat and thin. However, once it dries it feels very drying on the lips and I wanted to put a gloss on top. It stays tacky for quite awhile until it completely dries down. I applied it at 4pm before I headed out to a BBQ and by the time I was home at 9pm it was completely worn off.

20170707_175539

I really like the colors in the NYX Lip Lingerie collection, but I wish the formula was longer lasting. However, they do wear nicely and don’t stain the lips like some other liquid lipsticks. I am okay with needing to reapply because the applicator is easy to use and the color is forgiving if you don’t reapply it perfectly.

Despite the fact that it is not as long lasting as I hoped I really do like this lip product and would recommend it for those looking for a light weight nude liquid lipstick!

June Favorites

20170630_111309

I have got quite a few new products in the last few months and in June I found myself using and loving makeup more than ever! Here are a few of my favorites this month:

Wet N Wild Photofocus Foundation in Soft Beige ($7.99 CAD) – I really like this foundation. I picked it up at Loblaws Superstore because I had originally bought some off Well.ca but it was way too dark so when I saw it at Superstore I was excited to be able to color match to my skin. This foundation is medium to full coverage and lasts all day. It looks flawless in pictures and is a great canvas for other makeup to sit on top of. I apply it with a flat foundation brush or damp sponge. I find both work well. I highly recommend this foundation!

Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in the shade All-time favorite ($3.99 CAD) – I ordered this online but you can also often find them at Shoppers Drug Mart. I just find my Shopper does not carry vary many shades and is often sold out of what I want. I love this color and formula. It is creamy and a perfect everyday mauve nude. It does not last very long but with lipstick I am fine with reapplying it throughout the day.

Sigma Tapered Blending Brush E40 – This brush is EVERYTHING! I did not know what I was missing until I purchased this brush. It helps me blend my crease colors effortlessly and I seriously use it everyday.  Sigma brushes are amazing quality and worth every penny!

20170630_111348

Tarte Park Ave Princess bronzer (sample size) – I got this in my most recent Tarte haul and I really like it! It has a bit of shimmer but the color gives the perfect sun-kissed look on my medium tan skin. I have never hit pan on a bronzer but I have a feeling I will use this one up by the end of the summer!

Makeup Revolution Luxury Powder in the shade Banana ($8.45 CAD) – I really like this banana powder for under my eyes. Before I had this powder I was using the Kat Von D Shade and Light palette’s banana powder and I honestly like this one better. It blurs out my under eye area and sits really well on top of concealer without settling into my fine lines.

20170630_111811.jpg

Benefit Roller Lash mascara ($30 CAD) – My first impression of this mascara was not great, I felt it was good but nothing special. However, the more I use it the more I love it. The brush separates my lashes nicely but it still gives me a bit of length and volume. It does help my lashes hold a curl as well. My favorite thing about this mascara is that it is super easy to remove. For an everyday mascara I need it to be easy to remove and this stuff comes off with simple face wash which is great! I definitely recommend this mascara for every day use.

That wraps up my June Favorites!! Comment below and let me know if you are loving any of these products as well and what other products you have been loving this month.

xoxo Sarah

MOTD and Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette Review

20170628_161123Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette Review:

I got the Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette for my Birthday last year because my friend couldn’t get any of the palettes on my list and thought this one was similar. On first glance I really liked it but the more I use it the more I really dislike it. The color range is great and I like the large highlight and lid shades but they are VERY powdery and have a ton of fall out. If I tap my brush a lot of product comes off. I also find they don’t blend well and without an eye primer they won’t last more than a few hours. I have heard great things about the newer Shade and Light eye palette but unless they drastically changed their formula I don’t think I will be trying it anytime soon. I find the Too Faced Chocolate Bar or Urban Decay Naked palettes a better value for your money.

Decluttering – Pt. 2 Moving On

I decided to go through my makeup collection and pull out things I do not use anymore and pass them on to my sister.

20170626_135422

Eyes & Extras:

Mascara’s – Clinique, Smashbox, Benefit & Loreal – I have tried all three of these mascaras and got more as sample sizes in various subscriptions and Sephora orders. I like the Clinique one but it doesn’t do enough for me to love it. I find the Smashbox Full Exposure has a really large brush and I don’t love it. I really dislike Benefit’s They’re Real, I find it impossible to get off at the end of the night and the formula is too dry. I usually like drier formulas but this one just doesn’t coat my lashes very well. I LOVE L’Oreal Lash Paradise I just accidentally bought waterproof which I find too hard to get off for everyday mascara so I am passing it on to my sister. I already repurchased it in their non-waterproof formula.

Eyeliners – L’Oreal and Bellapierre – I liked both of these eyeliners but I just don’t reach for them anymore. The Bellapierre is just a typical black pencil and isn’t anything special. I use my Makeup Forever and Tarte pencils much more often. The L’Oreal Infallible Smoky eyeliner is a cool concept, it comes out more like a smoky powder and it does not budge all day and is great for smoking out the lower lash line or adding some extra color to your lash line. I just don’t use it anymore.

Highligher – Benefit’s Watt’s Up – I really like this but because it is creamy I find I forget not to set my face first so I can’t use it as easily. I have another sample size one so I decided I didn’t need two and my sister really wanted to try it. I doubt I would use up two before they expired so I am passing it on.  It is a great highlight though!

20170626_135258

Face:

Concealer – Elf and Hard Candy – I find both of these concealers way too cakey and they crease really bad. I didn’t find the Glamoflauge as amazing as everyone says it is and it doesn’t last very long on my oily skin.

Bronzer – Body Shop – I find this bronzer super orange but my sister is fair skinned so it may work better for her.

Powder- Elf Booster – I have so many powders and I just don’t reach for this one. It is not special enough to make the cut!

Primer- Body Shop – I find this primer really heavy and it actually breaks me out. My sister doesn’t have sensitive skin so she might like it.

20170626_135455

Palettes:

Eye shadow Palette – ELF – I used to LOVE this palette, as it obviously looks well loved. I find ELF has good drug store eye shadows and they actually are quite pigmented and creamy for how cheap they are. I just have so many eye shadow palettes that I love more now so I am passing this on to my sister. She saw it and is really excited to play with it!

20170626_154841

Lips:

Lipsticks – Makeup Forever (Freedom) and Essence – I find the Makeup Forever reds really bleed and I don’t suit red to begin with so the fact that it bleeds really bad just turned me off. My sister loves red lips so she may like these. The Essence is a nude shade that is way too light for me. My sister is fairer but I feel it may even be too light for her. I love Essence lipsticks though, this shade just didn’t make the cut.

Liquid Lipstick – Kat Von D – I got this in a Sephora Lip Sample Kit and I find it to be quite streaky which I don’t like in a dark lip product. My sister loves the color though so she will still get use out of it!

Decluttering – Pt. 1 Empties

20170626_135149

I have decided it is time to go through my makeup collection, throw away empties and expired products and gift products to my sister that I don’t use anymore.

The first thing I decided to do was go through what was empty and expired products, which are all pictured above.

L’Oreal Telescopic mascara is one of my holy grail mascaras, this is my fourth tube I believe. I use it up pretty fast as I tend to always start with a coat of this mascara and then use other mascaras on top to get the look I am going for. I find this mascara adds a lot of length to my lashes which I love!

Covergirl Super Sizer mascara was my favorite mascara for going out. I wore it when I wanted a dramatic look that would stay all day. I found it added a lot of volume but could look quite spidery if I used more than two coats. I don’t think I will be repurchasing it mostly because it is impossible to remove, and that made me skeptical of wearing it as often as I would have if it removed easily.

Smashbox Primer Water (sample size) was definitely something I plan to purchase. I have been holding off just because I was hoping to find a cheaper primer for the summer but I think I probably just need to bite the bullet and buy this one. I like how it felt on my skin and often times I forget to put on primer so this is really fast and easy option.

Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals foundation was my old faithful until last year and this one I hit pan on and its likely expired. This foundation provided good coverage and color matched me well. I don’t believe Body Shop carries this line anymore and I stopped buying it when I discovered Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless for a much lower price point. I used to really like Body Shop makeup and I would take advantage of their buy 3 get 3 free but I have found drug store makeup I like much better and for cheaper.

All in all while decluttering I realized I don’t use a lot of makeup until it is empty. Besides mascara and foundation I find it hard to use a full size product up before I get sick of it. I may have to start challenging myself to use up what I have before purchasing new stuff.

MOTD Friday – essence lips

I recently did an order on essencemakeup.ca because I wanted to try a few new products that weren’t carried at my local Shoppers Drug Mart. I received a few broken items but when I emailed customer service they immediately agreed to ship me replacements which I thought was great! So I will do a full essence makeup review in the near future!

My makeup today was really simple. I used BB cream and a bit of bronzer and blush on my face, and then a pencil shimmer on my eyes. Then I went for a mauve nude lip which I have been loving lately!

Face: Rimmel matte BB cream shade medium

Bronzer: essence matte bronzing powder in light

Blush: essence satin touch blush in shade 10 coral

Eyes: essence 2 in 1 eye shadow and liner in shade 02 Peach Perfect & NYX jumbo eye pencil in shade 630 Cashmere

Mascara: benefit Roller Lash

Lip liner: essence shade 08 girl next door

Lipstick: essence shade 26 all time favorite

Lip gloss: essence XXXL shine in 07 big night out

tarte shape tape contour concealer – Worth the Hype & Price?

20170613_192327

In May I did a tarte haul where I revealed I ordered from their website mainly to try shape tape. It has not been available in Canada and so when the website started to sell it I decided I had to have it! I have been trying it for the last few weeks so I figured it was time to share my final verdict.

This concealer retails for $31 CAD on the tarte website. If you spend $75+ CAD you get free shipping, which is pretty reasonable. I purchased it in two colors, light and light-medium. Light is the forth lightest shade (fair is the lightest) so I figured it would work well for me when I am not tanned. I have only been wearing light-medium for the sake of this review.

You receive .34 oz of product which is quite a lot for concealer. To compare, NARS creamy radiant concealer only comes in .22 oz for $37 CAD. I feel like shape tape it is a pretty good value for a high end concealer, especially because a little goes a long way.

20170613_192358

The packaging is heavy and it feels good quality. It is clear so you can actually see the color of the product through the package. The applicator is a large doe foot applicator and makes applying this concealer under the eyes very easy.

I mostly used this concealer for under my eyes, however I also used it to cover up some small blemishes and acne scars on my face as well. I have set it with various powders and once it sets I found it appears quite matte.

The one thing that everyone raves about is this concealers coverage and that it does not crease. I am not sure I can confidently boast about either. It does have very good coverage, but the coverage does not last all day and when I use it to cover blemishes I do not find it fully covers them. I do find this concealer blends well with my finger or beauty blender though and sets well with powder. I also find this concealer sinks into my fine lines and my under eye bags can sometimes show through. I have this problem with any full coverage products though so it may be more an issue with my skin type than the concealer itself.

I have not found a drugstore concealer with this much coverage before so at this point there is really no cheaper dupe for this product. I do appreciate that tarte is cruelty free and I find their products do not break out my sensitive skin. I feel with this concealer you really do get what you pay for and it is worth the price tag.

Overall I really do like this concealer and would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a high end full coverage concealer. It is great for days when I want to wear a full face of makeup and have good coverage under my eyes. It pairs really well with my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation and together they look great in pictures and hide problem areas well.

However, I still find myself reaching for my Maybelline Fit Me or Age Rewind concealer for my everyday makeup, as I find they are lighter and less cakey and come at a much lower price point.

If you have bought tarte shape tape and been using it in your makeup routine, let me know what you think of it in the comments!

First Impressions – L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara

cover1

On the weekend I was really excited to do a drug store haul because Shoppers Drug Mart was having a Spend Your Points event and I had $200 worth of Shoppers Optimum Points. I only spent $85 worth of points but I was excited to buy a few new things to try out.

This morning when I woke up I decided to try a couple of the products I purchased and write about my first impressions. Here is how I felt about the products:

L’OREAL LASH PARADISE MASCARA ($12 CAD on sale) 20170612_190948

I was especially excited to try the new L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara as I heard it was a dupe for Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, which I really like. The wand on this mascara is straight with lots of dense bristles to help hug every lash. This mascara has a thicker drier formula which I personally like. I could build this mascara up to three coats without it looking too spidery. This mascara gave my lashes a lot of volume and some length. I curled my eyelashes before applying it and it held the curl throughout the day. 8 hours after I did my makeup my lashes still looked great and there was no smudging or flaking.

My only complaint about this mascara is that because the applicator is quite large I got a lot of product on my eyelid when I applied it. This is not usually a problem for me and it was a bit frustrating having to touch up my eye makeup after I applied it.

Despite the product getting on my lid I would still definitely recommend this mascara. It keeps my eyelashes looking voluminous all day!

NYX PORE FILLER ($16.99)

This product claims to reduce the appearance of pores. It can be used underneath or on top of makeup. Today I used it as a makeup primer under my BB cream. I found it definitely minimized the look of my pores on my cheeks. Usually my pores are very visible and combined with the BB cream my skin looked really smooth.

I will have to see how the looks when I apply full coverage foundation on top as I find full coverage foundations tend to exaggerate my pores, but so far I really like this product. The price tag is quite expensive for a drug store product but I have yet to find a good drug store primer so if this continues to work I will consider it a great find!

RIMMEL LONDON BB CREAM ($6.99 CAD on sale)

I purchased this BB Cream because I was looking for a matte BB cream that provided decent coverage and was perfect for an everyday summer base for my makeup. I bought the color medium because I get quite tanned in the summer. The medium shade is quite orange but it blended well into my skin and was not too noticeable. It was light coverage but better than many other BB creams I have tried in the past. I put NYX Pore Filler as my primer underneath and I felt the primer and BB cream together gave my skin a smooth appearance. I could easily put bronzer and blush over top and set it with a powder.

I do not think this BB cream is anything mind blowing but it will still likely be one of my staples this summer!

MAYBELLINE COLOR SENSATIONAL INTI-MATTE NUDES LIPSTICK ($5.99 CAD)

20170612_181144

I picked up this lipstick in shade 565 Almond Rose because I was looking for a matte rosey nude lipstick for the summer. I have owned Maybelline lipsticks in the past and find they have a moisturizing formula. This lipstick was great! I applied it at 9 am and it lasted past lunch. It was really easy to apply without a liner so I could reapply it easily throughout the day.  This lipstick also has a sugary scent which smells amazing! This lipstick is a perfect summer nude and I highly recommend it.

Here is a picture of these products in today’s makeup look. I really like how the mascara makes my lashes look!

20170612_092803

I was really excited about these new products and can not wait to try the rest of my purchases from this weekend and review them in future posts!

Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of these products and enjoyed them as well!

Makeup Revolution Review – Redemption Palette Iconic 3

I finally caved and did an order on tambeauty.com. Shipping to Canada was free when I spent $40 and the website was really user friendly and listed all the prices in Canadian (if you set the setting to Canada). TAM Beauty is known for their dupes of high end makeup, especially Naked, Lorac and Chocolate Bar palettes.

I picked up quite a few things but one I was most excited for was the Iconic 3 palette (for $7 CAD) because I have always wanted the Naked 3 palette but couldn’t justify the money. I like the Naked 2 and have hit pan on a few of the colors, but I also have the Naked Smoky and find it hard to use for an everyday look and I rarely reach for it.

20170609_183331

The Redemption Palette Iconic 3 has 12 mostly warm toned neutral rosey shades: 7 matte shades and 5 shimmery shades. I really like the lighter matte colors as crease and transition shades. The most disappointing shade is the lightest shade because it is not very pigmented and doesn’t show up as a brow highlight like I anticipated. The darker shades are great for smudging on the lower lash line, although they do have a bit of fall out. The texture is a bit drier than I like in an eyeshadow, which makes the shimmers less pigmented. I find the shimmer shades are not long wearing and wear off my lids in a few hours, even with setting spray. If you use a setting spray directly on your brush you can make the shimmers show up quite well though and last a bit longer.

20170609_183730

The Pros:

  • beautiful colors
  • when wet the shimmers show up beautifully
  • it has a good range of matte and shimmer shadows
  • it is very affordable

The Cons:

  • the formula is somewhat dry
  • there is fall out if you do not tap off your brush well
  • some shades are not very pigmented

Overall I do enjoy this palette and will reach for it when I am looking for rosey toned shadows. If you can’t afford Naked 3 I definitely think this is a great way to try out warm rosey shadows. For $7 CAD it is a pretty great palette!

tarte Makeup Haul – All for shape tape

20170531_125513

I was so excited when I saw Tarte was carrying Shape Tape online now. It has been an Ulta exclusive for awhile and Ulta shipping to Canada is pretty pricey. Tarte offers free shipping when you spend $75 CAD so I decided to do an order!

The shipping time was reasonable, it took about a week to arrive and there was no duty or custom fees.

Here is what I got in my order:

limited-edition girls just wanna have sun bronze & sun set $22 CAD

This kit includes:

  • travel size Brazillianceâ„¢ PLUS+ self-tanner
  • Brazillianceâ„¢ self-tanning face towelette
  • deluxe better bod bronze & contour
  • deluxe Amazonian clay waterproof bronzer in park ave princessâ„¢

I am really excited to try this kit because I am slowly entering the world of self tanning and I wanted to compare it to my St. Tropez tanning products. I also love that it contains a bronzer, because I LOVE bronzer!

application mitt $7 CAD

I also picked up the tarte tanner application mitt. I already know this is an amazing purchase. The mitt is really good quality and appears as though it will last many applications. I got a mitt with my St. Tropez kit and it hasn’t been used and the seams are already ripping.

shape tape contour concealer $31 CAD

I honestly only did a Tarte order so I could purchase this concealer. Everyone online raves about it so I was super excited to try it out. I got it in Light and Light Medium. I can already tell Light will be too light for the summer but Light Medium appears to be perfect! I am excited to keep trying this out and decide if its worth the hype.

top of the line 6-piece eyeliner set $40 CAD

This item is no longer available on the site but I have been looking for a good higher end eyeliner and I may have met my match. These are very pigmented and have a really creamy formula which I prefer in an eyeliner. I love this set because it has a couple metallic colors included on top of black, brown and grey.

water foundation (sample) $47 CAD for the full size

I am excited to try out this foundation. It is supposed to be a lightweight, full coverage hydrating foundation infused with tarte’s Rainforest of the Seaâ„¢ complex. I did not like their Amazonian Clay foundation because I found it really thick and cakey. I hope this foundation gives good coverage but really is lightweight like it claims.
