Maybelline Superstay Foundation

Last weekend I went to Shoppers Drug Mart for their Spend Your Points event. I got $75 worth of free makeup when I redeemed 50,000 Optimum points! The purchase I was most excited about was the Maybelline Superstay Foundation. I follow a few Youtubers who have raved about it and said it was long lasting, full coverage and great for oily skin. I have been trying it out all week and decided to give a full review to let you all know if it lives up to its hype!

First off, the package is made of heavy glass which feels nice and high end. It also has a pump which is super convenient and a step up from the Fit Me foundation packaging. The foundation costs $15.99 CAD which is on the higher end for drug store foundation but not quite as high as Revlon or L’Oreal. I purchased shade 220 Natural Beige which is just a tad bit too dark for me right now. I am usually 330 in Fit Me so I thought 220 would be lighter but it wasn’t. The shade range for the Superstay was not nearly as expansive as their Fit Me line, Shoppers Drug Mart only had 5 shades available.

On first impression the foundation is lightweight yet full coverage. It blends easily with a beauty blender or brush. The formula dries quite fast so you need to apply it quickly. I found when I wore it without a pore minimizing primer it did accentuate my pores and looked a bit more cakey. When I wore good primer though I found it looked a lot more smooth and skin like. The finish is definitely matte and it did not break up or get oily throughout the day like most foundations do on me. After 8 hours it still looked pretty good but by 12 hours it had faded and wore off significantly.

This is a picture of me after just applying the foundation and finishing my makeup. It definitely is full coverage and gives an almost airbrushed look right after application. It does wear down to a more natural look throughout the day though. The one trick I learned is less is more, it blends really well and a little bit goes a long way even for full coverage. If you wear too much it can definitely look cakey but if you spread a small amount it looks decently natural.

The Pros:

  • full coverage
  • drugstore price
  • good quality packaging and pump
  • easily blends with either a sponge or brush
  • long lasting
  • matte finish
  • does not break up on oily skin

The Cons:

  • it can look cakey and feel heavy if you use too much
  • it accentuates the pores
  • lack of shade range

All in all I would say it is a great drug store foundation and easily my new favourite. I love that it is a long lasting full coverage foundation at the drug store! I would highly recommend this if you are looking for full coverage foundation for oily skin.

Let me know if you have tried this or any other new foundations from the drug store lately!

Drugstore Skincare Haul

I have been seeing a lot of The Ordinary skincare on blogs lately and I was super impressed with their price point, transparency, and the fact that they are made here in Canada! DECIEM is a well known skin care brand so the fact that they make The Ordinary was enough for me to want to try it!

I have never seen The Ordinary brand here in drugstores or even department stores so I checked out Well.ca and found that they sell quite a bit of the line. I decided to try a regimen for Anti-Aging because this year is my 30th Birthday and I know I need to start being more proactive about my skin and signs of aging. The Buffet and 2% Retinoid are supposed to be great for anti-aging so I ordered them along with their primer.

My haul included:

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer $4.90

The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2% $9.80

The Ordinary Buffet Serum $14.80

PiperWai Activated Charcoal Natural Deodorant $15.99

I have started using the PiperWai deodorant and I love it! I have been searching and searching for a great natural deodorant. I really liked Schmidts but I got a skin infection after using it so I wanted to try something else. It is unconventional as you have to take it out with your hands and spread it under your arms. I like that though as you don’t use very much and its actually more hygienic. If you are on the hunt for a good natural deodorant I highly recommend this one!

If you live in Canada and are hoping to grab some of these products you can use my coupon code beautyandmomlife for $10 off any $40 purchase at Well.ca.

I will start to use The Ordinary skincare in my regular regime and let you all know it works out for me in a future review!

Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of these products and if they have worked out well for you!

Colourpop Cosmetics Shipping to Canada

I have been waiting for the Yes Please eyeshadow palette to be restocked on ColourPop’s website, and finally I got an email about it being restocked. I waited until 10AM PT (11 AM my time) and quickly ordered it. I also ordered 3 Glossy Lippies, 3 Satin Lippies and the Hi-Maintenance palette and a highlighter and pressed shadow.

They offer free International Shipping for orders over $50 USD. My order totalled $63.00 USD which came out to $81.83 CAD plus I owed $19 CAD in duty charges when it arrived. This means my whole order ended up costing more than $100 CAD. I ordered August 24, received shipping confirmation on August 28 and then received the package September 6. The package was well wrapped and no products were damaged during transit.

On first impression I was really excited for everything. The packaging is simple and practical and I appreciate that most of it will be able to be recycled. The only thing that disappointed me was the size of the Yes Please palette. It is VERY small, the shadows themselves are about half of a usual pressed eyeshadow and the palette easily fits in the palm of my hand. I have watched lots of YouTube videos featuring the platte and honestly never noticed it being so small. However, it was only $12 USD so it still a fairly good value.

I plan to do a few more updates about this haul after trying the products a bit longer. I will also comment more about if they are still a good value for those across the border after factoring in the exchange and duty.

Let me know your experience with Colourpop in the comments!
