L’OREAL Colour Riche Shine Review

I am so sorry I have been missing on here lately, life has taken quite a busy turn in the last few months. We bought a new home, and I am off to Africa on a volunteer trip in two weeks so preparing for all the changes and adventures has been keeping me away from blogging.

I did want to come on here and give a quick review about the new Colour Riche Shine lipsticks from L’OREAL though. I purchased mine at Shoppers Drug Mart during a spend your points event and I am in major love! The formula is super creamy and it gives an amazing wet looking shine on the lips. They are $13.99 CAD which is on the higher end for drugstore lipsticks but I find L’OREAL produces high quality lip products.

20180417_122432

I purchased the colour Varnished Rosewood (904) and I love it. It is a rosey nude color. These lipsticks are super easy to apply on the go because they are quite sheer so you do not have to apply them too precisely. I think the colour payoff is perfect for an everyday lip colour and I see myself keeping this lipstick in my car to wear on the go all day. They are not long lasting but because they are so easy to apply that does not bother me. The packaging is very shiny, it is plastic but still quite classy looking. It was hard to take a picture of though because its so reflective!

Above is a picture of the lipstick in natural light about a half hour after I applied it. I highly recommend these lipsticks for a touch of shiny color on the go!

Let me know in the comments if you have tried these and if you enjoy them as much as I do.

Quick everyday makeup routine

qem

I have had quite a few discussions lately with ladies who do not wear much makeup but still want to add some quick makeup to their routine. I often do my makeup in 5-10 minutes unless I am going out or to an event so I figured I would share my quick everyday makeup routine on the blog today!

First off for my base I quickly apply BB cream all over my face and neck. I find it skips the moisturizing step because I find BB creams to be more moisturizing than foundation. I like this Rimmel BB cream because I find it provides pretty good coverage and its really easy to apply with your fingers, or quickly with a beauty sponge.

20180209_092010_HDR

Then I apply a little concealer under my eyes and blend it out with my finger (but you can skip this step if you feel you don’t need extra coverage) and then I apply the top left powder in the Hourglass palette under my eyes to brighten and set them.

I then apply Butter bronzer to the hollows of my cheeks and temples and then one of the two blushes from the same palette to the apples of my cheeks. If I want some highlight I will quickly pop on the highlight from the hourglass palette (top middle).

20180209_092205_HDR

For the eyes I use a palette with mattes and shimmers like UD Naked 2 and quickly apply a matte shade like “Tease” as the transition shade and then a shimmer like “Suspect” (the 6th from the right) all over the lid. If you are looking for a good drugstore eyeshadow palette you can use a Maybelline City Mini Palette with mattes and shimmers.

Then I quickly fill in my brows with something like Essence “make me brow” and pop on some volume mascara and I am good to go! You can also quickly add a lipgloss to finish the look.

20180208_084952

Here is a picture of the completed look! It is super natural and doesn’t look like I am wearing much makeup at all but just enough that I feel confident throughout the day.

I find the key to a quick look a is a versatile palette like the Hourglass Vol. 3. However, it is pretty pricey so if you are looking for a drugstore version I know NYX offers a few contour palettes that have blush and bronzer as well as some eye shadows for under $20. You can also just use your favorite bronzer or blush, I just like the convenience of the multi-palette.

Let me know what you quick everyday make up staples are!

Maybelline Superstay Foundation

Last weekend I went to Shoppers Drug Mart for their Spend Your Points event. I got $75 worth of free makeup when I redeemed 50,000 Optimum points! The purchase I was most excited about was the Maybelline Superstay Foundation. I follow a few Youtubers who have raved about it and said it was long lasting, full coverage and great for oily skin. I have been trying it out all week and decided to give a full review to let you all know if it lives up to its hype!

First off, the package is made of heavy glass which feels nice and high end. It also has a pump which is super convenient and a step up from the Fit Me foundation packaging. The foundation costs $15.99 CAD which is on the higher end for drug store foundation but not quite as high as Revlon or L’Oreal. I purchased shade 220 Natural Beige which is just a tad bit too dark for me right now. I am usually 330 in Fit Me so I thought 220 would be lighter but it wasn’t. The shade range for the Superstay was not nearly as expansive as their Fit Me line, Shoppers Drug Mart only had 5 shades available.

On first impression the foundation is lightweight yet full coverage. It blends easily with a beauty blender or brush. The formula dries quite fast so you need to apply it quickly. I found when I wore it without a pore minimizing primer it did accentuate my pores and looked a bit more cakey. When I wore good primer though I found it looked a lot more smooth and skin like. The finish is definitely matte and it did not break up or get oily throughout the day like most foundations do on me. After 8 hours it still looked pretty good but by 12 hours it had faded and wore off significantly.

20180115_090615.jpg

This is a picture of me after just applying the foundation and finishing my makeup. It definitely is full coverage and gives an almost airbrushed look right after application. It does wear down to a more natural look throughout the day though. The one trick I learned is less is more, it blends really well and a little bit goes a long way even for full coverage. If you wear too much it can definitely look cakey but if you spread a small amount it looks decently natural.

The Pros:

  • full coverage
  • drugstore price
  • good quality packaging and pump
  • easily blends with either a sponge or brush
  • long lasting
  • matte finish
  • does not break up on oily skin

The Cons:

  • it can look cakey and feel heavy if you use too much
  • it accentuates the pores
  • lack of shade range

All in all I would say it is a great drug store foundation and easily my new favourite. I love that it is a long lasting full coverage foundation at the drug store! I would highly recommend this if you are looking for full coverage foundation for oily skin.

Let me know if you have tried this or any other new foundations from the drug store lately!

The Best Makeup of 2017

best2017

My Christmas and New Years got away from me and I never got a chance to do this post, so I decided it was a great way to kick off 2018 on the blog instead!

2017 was such a great year for me when it comes to discovering new makeup. I was borderline obsessed with finding great new drugstore products as well as some splurge worthy high end products.

20170612_175841

My absolute favourite find of 2017 was L’Oreal’s Lash Paradise. I loved this mascara the day I tried it and used up two tubes since. I was so devoted to my L’Oréal Telescopic Mascara for the last few years but Lash Paradise quickly replaced it. I find the tubes do dry out quite quick though so they do not even last me 3 months where Telescopic could last me forever (although that is not sanitary I know).

20180110_150601_HDR.jpg

My favourite eyeshadow palette of 2017 has to be the Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette. It is such a beautiful neutral matte palette. I rarely use it for a complete eye look but I usually use it for the transition shade and sometimes to darken the corners and then I add some type of shimmery shade or colour to the lid after. I literally reach for it every day!

The stand out product for me when it comes to innovation is the Stila Magnificent Metals. I own both types and I love them so much! These last so long and the shades are so beautiful. I have Kitten Karma and use it anytime I want a full glam look! I wore it for my 30th Birthday this year. There are no other products on the market that compare to these!

My favourite and most used foundation of the year was Wet and Wild Photo Focus foundation. It is so affordable, long lasting and provides great matte coverage. I highly recommend it!

20180110_150401_HDR.jpg

My favourite highlighter I found later in the year and it was the Maybelline Master Chrome highligher in Molten Gold. It is the perfect pinky golden shade and it suits my skin tone so well. I literally wear it every day.

My favourite bronzer was definitely Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. I have yet to find one that blends so easily and add the perfect amount of color. When I am tanned I can’t wear it as much because I need something darker but most of the time this is my every day go-to bronzer!

My favourite lip product this year is the NYX Intense Butter Glosses! I love how pigmented they are yet also hydrating. I wore one to an Arizona Cardinals game and loved how easy it was to touch up and how great it looked in pictures. I have bought a few more since then and plan to keep quite a few in my collection!

I hope you enjoyed reading my 2017 stand out makeup products. Let me know in the comments if you agree with my picks and what else you would add to the list!

NYX 24 Days of Lips – Week 2

In my most recent NYX Haul I purchased a NYX lippie countdown advent calendar. I have been loving testing out new colors and formulas so far this month!

My Week 1 post is here. This week had some very neutral colors and a couple bold colors. My favourite formula is definitely the Liquid Suede and the Butter Glosses!

20171218_135429.jpg

Day 8 was a Butter Gloss in the shade Creme Brulee. It is a pretty neutral pink lip gloss. This formula is not very pigmented or long lasting but it is moisturizing and adds a little color to your lips!

20171218_134656.jpg

Day 9 was a Matte Lipstick in the shade Up the Bass. This color was streaky but the formula was moisturizing for a matte shade. I would never wear this shade again though and it was definitely my least favourite lippie so far.

20171212_194505.jpg

Day 10 was a NYX Lingerie lippie in the shade Corset. It is a very light nude. I like wearing this under a lip gloss to even out my lips! I will definitely wear it again but likely not on its own as the formula is very drying.

20171218_140215.jpg

Day 11 was a Soft Matte lip cream in the shade São Paulo. It was a very bright magenta color. I like this formula and have owned quite a few lippies in other shades. It is light on the lips and not as drying as the Lingerie’s.

20171218_083336.jpg

Day 12 was a Matte Lipstick in the shade Indie Flick. I usually hate orangey red lipsticks but I actually really liked this one. The formula was creamy for a matte lipstick and it did not bleed or smear as much as I expected. This color was much more pigmented than the purple shade on day 9. I highly recommend this one!

20171217_103714.jpg

Day 13 was by far my favourite formula and shade of the week, it was a Liquid Suede cream lipstick in the shade Vintage! My sister actually owns the full size of this one and I love it. I wore it to our family Christmas. I highly recommend this formula and this shade. The formula is light but fairly long wearing and wears well under a lipgloss.

20171218_135716.jpg

Day 14 was a Butter Lipstick in the shade Root Beer Float. This formula is a sheer hydrating lipstick that wears off nicely without staining the lips. I personally do not wear a lot of sheer lipsticks but I really liked this shade and the extra color it added to the lips. I would definitely wear this one again!

I hope you enjoyed this weeks lippies! I really love how I get to try so many different types and shades of NYX lippies with this calendar. I found quite a few gems so far and I am excited to try the rest of them this upcoming week!

Let me know what your favourite NYX lippie is in the comments!!

Luxebox Unboxing Winter 2017

20171214_160555_HDR

My winter Luxebox arrived this week! Luxebox is a Canadian beauty subscription box. You can purchase its at myluxebox.ca for $26CAD per box. It is sent through Top Box if you are familiar with their boxes.

This month I was not super excited. It is a decent box but since getting Boxycharm not much else compares. I like to support Canadian subscriptions but the value cannot really compare to Boxycharm!

I did not receive an email with an explanation of the products this month so I am just going to provide any information I can find online. This seasons box includes:

Barefoot Hand Moisturizer $10 – I like that this is a Canadian brand, although I am never a huge fan of hand moisturizer in my box.

Cougar Eyeshadow Contour Set $13– This is a weird shimmer eyeshadow palette. I have never seen it in a round package like this. I love these colors so I may use it but it is not an item I am super excited about!

20171214_160709_HDR

Morgan Taylor nail polish $7– I actually love this nail polish color. As long as it is decently long lasting I will be happy with it!

Laritzy silicon makeup blender $14– I have only seen bad reviews about silicon makeup blenders so I am super disappointed that they included this. I feel like it was something Laritzy tried to get rid of.

Medusa lipstick $7– I love this shade so I am excited to see how the formula is!

GlamGlow Youthmud mask $24– I was so excited about this in the last box but now I have got a few of these in boxes and I think they need more variety. It is an amazing mask though so I am happy to have it.

Sweetie Peppermint Bliss bath bomb– I love bath bombs so its a welcomed add on to the box!

All in all this box has decent value, I just was not super excited for any of the products. I think I will continue with Boxycharm but discontinue this one. I really wanted to like it because it was Canadian. I may try it out again in the future!

What subscription boxes are you loving lately!?

NYX 24 Days of Lips – Week 1

I was really excited for December because I decided I wanted to get through all of the lippies in the NYX Advent Calendar that I bought in my last NYX Haul. Many of the colors are way out of my comfort zone so I knew I likely would not wear them out but I was still excited to try them out and see which ones I would add to my collection.

20171207_100738_HDR

The lippies themselves are mini versions but NYX stayed very true to the same packaging that is on the full size products. I think they are the perfect size to throw in your pocket or purse and I rarely use a whole lip product so this way I may actually get a chance to finish them!

20171207_100803_HDR

Here is the mini Intense Butter Gloss compared to the full size. The packaging is almost identical, even down to the detail of the metallic lid!

20171205_152146_HDR

The first lippie for Day 1 is a Matte Lipstick in the shade Eden. I was a bit worried because the box and tube showed it to be a true red but it was actually more pink toned than it looked. I love pinky reds because I feel they brighten up my makeup without being too harsh. I actually really liked this formula, it was comfortable and went on extremely opaque. I did not find it too drying and it looked creamy on the lips despite being matte. I would definitely wear this lipstick again!

DSC_0331

The second lippie is a Liquid Suede cream lipstick in the shade Soft-Spoken. I LOVE this color but I didn’t really love the formula. I wore it to a supper out and after eating it had completely worn off and it didn’t fade nicely. I like the color enough though to wear it again, I just won’t wear it when I know I will be eating or drinking much.

20171205_154452

The third lippie is the Simply Vamp lip cream in the shade She Devil. I do not usually like vampy colors because I find them patchy and this lip cream was no exception. It was very patchy and hard to apply. The formula itself was nice and creamy but it could not be built up so it never looked fully opaque. I do not recommend this formula at all.

20171205_113640_HDR

The fourth lippie is a Lip Lingerie in the shade Push Up. I originally thought this color would be way too light on me but I actually ended up loving it! It is the perfect “my lips but better” nude color and I have found myself wearing it a few times already. I have reviewed this formula before here. I still feel the same way about the formula being dry and not long lasting, but I like the color enough to wear a gloss over it and this color wears off nicely. I highly recommend this one!

20171205_152911_HDR.jpg

The fifth lippie is a Soft Matte Lip Cream in the shade Paris. I have a lot of these in my collection but luckily didn’t have Paris already. I like this color and the formula of Matte Lip Creams. They dry down fairly quickly and are not too drying on the lips. I find them quite long wearing but not fully transfer proof. I recommend any of the Soft Matte Lip Creams as I have five or more already in my collection.

20171205_161423_HDR

The sixth lippie is a Butter Lipstick in the shade Seashell. I had my sister try it because I felt it would be way too light for my skin tone. She did not like how light it was on her either. I have tried Butter Lipsticks before and do not love them. They are creamy and comfortable but not long wearing and depending on the color they can stain your lips. I think my sister pulled this color off but I do not think its for everyone.

20171205_153713

The seventh lippie is an Intense Butter Gloss in the shade Berry Strudel. I have a couple Intense Butter Glosses and I LOVE them! They are fairly hydrating and really pigmented and they last quite awhile. They wear down well without staining your lips, even the darker colors. I am not a fan of purple lip products at all because they are often patchy but this one was really pigmented and buildable. I do not see myself wearing it out of the house but it was fun to try with a purple eye look! I do recommend this formula if you are looking for opaque lip glosses.

So that concludes Week 1 on my NYX Lippie Countdown! I am really excited to try the rest of them in the upcoming weeks. This advent calendar is such a great way to try different shades and formulas of NYX lip products! Let me know in the comments if you purchased any Advent Calendars this season.

Christmas Inspired MOTD

Today I decided to try a Christmas inspired makeup look. I have been loving red plaid lately, mostly due to this festive blanket scarf! Eyeliner: NYX Matte Liquid Liner
