L’OREAL Colour Riche Shine Review

I am so sorry I have been missing on here lately, life has taken quite a busy turn in the last few months. We bought a new home, and I am off to Africa on a volunteer trip in two weeks so preparing for all the changes and adventures has been keeping me away from blogging.

I did want to come on here and give a quick review about the new Colour Riche Shine lipsticks from L’OREAL though. I purchased mine at Shoppers Drug Mart during a spend your points event and I am in major love! The formula is super creamy and it gives an amazing wet looking shine on the lips. They are $13.99 CAD which is on the higher end for drugstore lipsticks but I find L’OREAL produces high quality lip products.

20180417_122432

I purchased the colour Varnished Rosewood (904) and I love it. It is a rosey nude color. These lipsticks are super easy to apply on the go because they are quite sheer so you do not have to apply them too precisely. I think the colour payoff is perfect for an everyday lip colour and I see myself keeping this lipstick in my car to wear on the go all day. They are not long lasting but because they are so easy to apply that does not bother me. The packaging is very shiny, it is plastic but still quite classy looking. It was hard to take a picture of though because its so reflective!

Above is a picture of the lipstick in natural light about a half hour after I applied it. I highly recommend these lipsticks for a touch of shiny color on the go!

Let me know in the comments if you have tried these and if you enjoy them as much as I do.

NYX 24 Days of Lips – Week 2

In my most recent NYX Haul I purchased a NYX lippie countdown advent calendar. I have been loving testing out new colors and formulas so far this month!

My Week 1 post is here. This week had some very neutral colors and a couple bold colors. My favourite formula is definitely the Liquid Suede and the Butter Glosses!

20171218_135429.jpg

Day 8 was a Butter Gloss in the shade Creme Brulee. It is a pretty neutral pink lip gloss. This formula is not very pigmented or long lasting but it is moisturizing and adds a little color to your lips!

20171218_134656.jpg

Day 9 was a Matte Lipstick in the shade Up the Bass. This color was streaky but the formula was moisturizing for a matte shade. I would never wear this shade again though and it was definitely my least favourite lippie so far.

20171212_194505.jpg

Day 10 was a NYX Lingerie lippie in the shade Corset. It is a very light nude. I like wearing this under a lip gloss to even out my lips! I will definitely wear it again but likely not on its own as the formula is very drying.

20171218_140215.jpg

Day 11 was a Soft Matte lip cream in the shade São Paulo. It was a very bright magenta color. I like this formula and have owned quite a few lippies in other shades. It is light on the lips and not as drying as the Lingerie’s.

20171218_083336.jpg

Day 12 was a Matte Lipstick in the shade Indie Flick. I usually hate orangey red lipsticks but I actually really liked this one. The formula was creamy for a matte lipstick and it did not bleed or smear as much as I expected. This color was much more pigmented than the purple shade on day 9. I highly recommend this one!

20171217_103714.jpg

Day 13 was by far my favourite formula and shade of the week, it was a Liquid Suede cream lipstick in the shade Vintage! My sister actually owns the full size of this one and I love it. I wore it to our family Christmas. I highly recommend this formula and this shade. The formula is light but fairly long wearing and wears well under a lipgloss.

20171218_135716.jpg

Day 14 was a Butter Lipstick in the shade Root Beer Float. This formula is a sheer hydrating lipstick that wears off nicely without staining the lips. I personally do not wear a lot of sheer lipsticks but I really liked this shade and the extra color it added to the lips. I would definitely wear this one again!

I hope you enjoyed this weeks lippies! I really love how I get to try so many different types and shades of NYX lippies with this calendar. I found quite a few gems so far and I am excited to try the rest of them this upcoming week!

Let me know what your favourite NYX lippie is in the comments!!

Luxebox Unboxing Winter 2017

20171214_160555_HDR

My winter Luxebox arrived this week! Luxebox is a Canadian beauty subscription box. You can purchase its at myluxebox.ca for $26CAD per box. It is sent through Top Box if you are familiar with their boxes.

This month I was not super excited. It is a decent box but since getting Boxycharm not much else compares. I like to support Canadian subscriptions but the value cannot really compare to Boxycharm!

I did not receive an email with an explanation of the products this month so I am just going to provide any information I can find online. This seasons box includes:

Barefoot Hand Moisturizer $10 – I like that this is a Canadian brand, although I am never a huge fan of hand moisturizer in my box.

Cougar Eyeshadow Contour Set $13– This is a weird shimmer eyeshadow palette. I have never seen it in a round package like this. I love these colors so I may use it but it is not an item I am super excited about!

20171214_160709_HDR

Morgan Taylor nail polish $7– I actually love this nail polish color. As long as it is decently long lasting I will be happy with it!

Laritzy silicon makeup blender $14– I have only seen bad reviews about silicon makeup blenders so I am super disappointed that they included this. I feel like it was something Laritzy tried to get rid of.

Medusa lipstick $7– I love this shade so I am excited to see how the formula is!

GlamGlow Youthmud mask $24– I was so excited about this in the last box but now I have got a few of these in boxes and I think they need more variety. It is an amazing mask though so I am happy to have it.

Sweetie Peppermint Bliss bath bomb– I love bath bombs so its a welcomed add on to the box!

All in all this box has decent value, I just was not super excited for any of the products. I think I will continue with Boxycharm but discontinue this one. I really wanted to like it because it was Canadian. I may try it out again in the future!

What subscription boxes are you loving lately!?

NYX 24 Days of Lips – Week 1

I was really excited for December because I decided I wanted to get through all of the lippies in the NYX Advent Calendar that I bought in my last NYX Haul. Many of the colors are way out of my comfort zone so I knew I likely would not wear them out but I was still excited to try them out and see which ones I would add to my collection.

20171207_100738_HDR

The lippies themselves are mini versions but NYX stayed very true to the same packaging that is on the full size products. I think they are the perfect size to throw in your pocket or purse and I rarely use a whole lip product so this way I may actually get a chance to finish them!

20171207_100803_HDR

Here is the mini Intense Butter Gloss compared to the full size. The packaging is almost identical, even down to the detail of the metallic lid!

20171205_152146_HDR

The first lippie for Day 1 is a Matte Lipstick in the shade Eden. I was a bit worried because the box and tube showed it to be a true red but it was actually more pink toned than it looked. I love pinky reds because I feel they brighten up my makeup without being too harsh. I actually really liked this formula, it was comfortable and went on extremely opaque. I did not find it too drying and it looked creamy on the lips despite being matte. I would definitely wear this lipstick again!

DSC_0331

The second lippie is a Liquid Suede cream lipstick in the shade Soft-Spoken. I LOVE this color but I didn’t really love the formula. I wore it to a supper out and after eating it had completely worn off and it didn’t fade nicely. I like the color enough though to wear it again, I just won’t wear it when I know I will be eating or drinking much.

20171205_154452

The third lippie is the Simply Vamp lip cream in the shade She Devil. I do not usually like vampy colors because I find them patchy and this lip cream was no exception. It was very patchy and hard to apply. The formula itself was nice and creamy but it could not be built up so it never looked fully opaque. I do not recommend this formula at all.

20171205_113640_HDR

The fourth lippie is a Lip Lingerie in the shade Push Up. I originally thought this color would be way too light on me but I actually ended up loving it! It is the perfect “my lips but better” nude color and I have found myself wearing it a few times already. I have reviewed this formula before here. I still feel the same way about the formula being dry and not long lasting, but I like the color enough to wear a gloss over it and this color wears off nicely. I highly recommend this one!

20171205_152911_HDR.jpg

The fifth lippie is a Soft Matte Lip Cream in the shade Paris. I have a lot of these in my collection but luckily didn’t have Paris already. I like this color and the formula of Matte Lip Creams. They dry down fairly quickly and are not too drying on the lips. I find them quite long wearing but not fully transfer proof. I recommend any of the Soft Matte Lip Creams as I have five or more already in my collection.

20171205_161423_HDR

The sixth lippie is a Butter Lipstick in the shade Seashell. I had my sister try it because I felt it would be way too light for my skin tone. She did not like how light it was on her either. I have tried Butter Lipsticks before and do not love them. They are creamy and comfortable but not long wearing and depending on the color they can stain your lips. I think my sister pulled this color off but I do not think its for everyone.

20171205_153713

The seventh lippie is an Intense Butter Gloss in the shade Berry Strudel. I have a couple Intense Butter Glosses and I LOVE them! They are fairly hydrating and really pigmented and they last quite awhile. They wear down well without staining your lips, even the darker colors. I am not a fan of purple lip products at all because they are often patchy but this one was really pigmented and buildable. I do not see myself wearing it out of the house but it was fun to try with a purple eye look! I do recommend this formula if you are looking for opaque lip glosses.

So that concludes Week 1 on my NYX Lippie Countdown! I am really excited to try the rest of them in the upcoming weeks. This advent calendar is such a great way to try different shades and formulas of NYX lip products! Let me know in the comments if you purchased any Advent Calendars this season.

Fall Beauty Favourites

Snow has arrived in Saskatchewan! I love Autumn but I hate how short of a season it is. Usually it lasts most of October until the first snow fall, and that snow fall showed up here this past week.

20171027_095935_HDR

I was planning to do a favourites post, and although fall has come and gone I figured I would update you all on all my makeup favorites from this fall.

20171027_095828_HDR

My most used product the last two months has definitely been my ELF blending brush. It is fairly dense and fanned out so it works great for bronzing! I literally use this brush everyday (as you can tell from how dirty it is!). My favourite blush this fall has been the Milani baked blush in the shade in Soleil, which is a medium shade with a bit of gold shimmer in it. The shimmer is not chunky at all and adds a nice shimmer to the skin!

My favourite highlight this month has been the Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in the shade Incandescent. It gives a nice pink toned highlight that is perfect for the changing of seasons. In the summer I tend to lean towards gold highlight but in the fall and winter I like to add more frosty highlights to my routine.

The brow product I use literally everyday is the Essence Make Me Brow in shade 02 browny brown. It is a tinted brow mascara that works on its own or overtop filled in brows. Even on days I barely wear any makeup I still use this product to keep my brows in place.

I have also really been loving the Milani eyeshadow primer. I do find it helps my eyeshadow last all day, whether its high end or drug store! When I want a more dramatic eye look I have been reaching for the NYX matte liquid eyeliner in black. It has a nice brush applicator that makes winged eyeliner a breeze.

Lastly my go-to lip product this month has been the Kat Von D everlasting liquid lip in the shade Ludwig. I got this in my Sephora favourites nude lips and I have used it a lot since then.

Let me know if you have tried any of these and if you have been using them a lot as well and if there are any other new products I should be trying out!

NYX Cosmetics Canada Haul and First Impressions

I know I have not been posting as often this month. Mom life is definitely more busy than I imagined and I have been focusing on things around the house as well as some volunteering lately. I hope to get back to blogging a bit more though!

I have been on the hunt for a great makeup Advent Calendar that is accessible to Canadian’s! I got an email telling me about this NYX set being available on the Canadian website so I HAD to have it. I had originally decided to go on a spending freeze in October but seeing this quickly ended that. Most advent calendars that appeal to beauty lovers are mostly skincare related and often come with a high price tag, so I appreciated that this one was makeup and was quite affordable!

20171025_155214_HDR

My online haul from NYX Cosmetics included:

Lippie Countdown Advent Calendar $65 CAD

  • This set is so beautiful. The packaging is really nice for its fairly affordable price point. You get 24 small lip products that vary in collection and color. I am excited to try these out, I likely won’t be able to wait until December. I may try these out in November in order to give a good review and a chance for beauty lovers to purchase this if they are interested!

20171025_155229_HDR

Liquid Creme Suede Lipstick – Holiday Set $19 CAD

  • I really like this formula and like that they offer holiday sets. You pretty much get one lipstick free so its definitely worth it! I also really like all 3 of these colors. Some of these may end up being gifts for some of my girl friends though.

20171025_155304_HDR

Precision Brow Pencil $12 CAD

  • I saw this in the NYX store in Edmonton but they were all sold out of my color. I have been using it for a few days and I really like it. The applicator is a bit thicker than the micro brow pencil and I like that because I already have full brows. I can do my brows quickly but precisely and I am really loving this so far. I also appreciate how it has a spoolie!

I hope you enjoyed this post! I really love NYX Cosmetics because they are affordable and good quality. They are a part of L’Oreal Group and I feel they compare in quality and price but often come out with more fun colors and ideas. Let me know in the comments if you are excited about any of these products, or if you have tried some of them out yourself!

Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Nude Lip – Review

Sephora often releases Sephora Favorites kits with a bunch of deluxe sample sized and one full size lip product. I often snatch them up because they sell out fast and tend to be a really good way to try out higher end lip products without spending a ton of money. I bought two of these kind of sets last year and have found myself using the more neutral one a lot. When I saw they were releasing a nude set I just had to have it!

20170919_110534.jpg

The Give Me Some Nude Lip set comes in a cute little box that is in the shape of lips! You get six products, 5 sample size and one full size. This set retails at $33 CAD claiming to have a value of $84 CAD.

According to the Sephora Website, this set contains:
– 0.07 oz/ 2.1 g Bite Beauty Multistick in Brioche (rich terracotta)
– 0.07 oz/ 2 mL Buxom® Full-On Lip Cream in Dolly (sultry mauve)
Р0.22 oz/ 6.5 mL Full size Ciat̩ London Liquid Velvet Moisturizing Matte Liquid Lipstick in Bitter Sweet (gray mink)
– 0.10 oz/ 3 mL Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Ludwig (nude fawn)
– 0.04 oz/ 1.4 g MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Rouge in C211 (rose wood)
– 0.035 oz/ 1 g tarteâ„¢ Rainforest of the Seaâ„¢ Color Splash Lipstick in Rum Punch (nude)

Bite Multistick in Brioche:

A full size Bite Multistick is .17oz/4.75 g and retails for $28 CAD. I like this color and this formula a lot, however I do not like the shape of the Multistick when using it as a lipstick. Rounded lip products I find hard to apply and I honestly do not see myself using this for anything other than the lips. I like that they include a Bite Beauty product though and do recommend there lipsticks for the formula alone!

Buxom® Full-On Lip Cream in Dolly

A full size Buxom Lip Cream is .14oz/ 4.45 ml and retails for $24 CAD. I really love this lip cream. I find it is closer to a lip gloss and it does give a bit of the tingly sensation because it has lip plumping product in it. I find this lipgloss is very long lasting and I do own these in a few other colors and reach for them a lot. It provides a bit of color and a high shine gloss that lasts quite a while. They are a bit sticky but nothing too major. I highly recommend these and was happy to see them included in this set.

Ciaté London Liquid Velvet Moisturizing Matte Liquid Lipstick in Bitter Sweet

The full size Ciate London liquid velvet retails for $23 CAD. I am not the hugest fan of this product at all. I was disappointed that this was the full size product as I rarely reach for it. The color is not my favourite because I find it a bit too gray for my skin tone. However, the worst part of this is the formula, it slides everywhere and does not last at all on my lips. I have tried it twice, making sure I allow time for it to dry, and it just doesn’t seem to dry down at all.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Ludwig

A full size Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick is .22oz/ 6.6 ml and retails for $24 CAD. This is my second Kat Von D liquid lipstick and I have to admit I was not a fan of them before this one. I really like this shade, and with a good lip liner and lip primer I find it can last quite awhile as well. When I wore this without a liner and primer it did not last at all and slid around a lot but another beauty blogger (Hollie) recommend using liner and it made a huge difference. This is a perfect pinky nude shade, it is definitely a your lips but better kind of color. I highly recommend it as I reach for it a lot!

MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Rouge in C211

A full size Makeup Forever lipstick is 0.12 oz/ 3.5 g and retails for $27 CAD. This is by far the darkest of all the lipsticks in this set. I find it very creamy and comfortable on the lips and I actually really like the color. I have tried these lipsticks before and do enjoy them. I am glad this one was included in the set.

tarteâ„¢ Rainforest of the Seaâ„¢ Color Splash Lipstick in Rum Punch

A full size Tarte lipstick is 0.12 oz/ 3.6 mL and retails for $27 CAD. This is a true nude lipstick. It is too nude for my skin tone and makes my lips look pale and sickly almost. I think someone with fairer skin may look great in this shade though. I like the formula and find it smooth and wearable, however this is one of the most expensive lipsticks in the set and I honestly do not find it worth the money.

Final Verdict:

All in all I think this is set is a great value and offers a chance to try some fantastic nude lip products. Although two of the lip products weren’t my cup of tea, I still think the set was worth the money! I find full size lipsticks hard to use up so I like that this gives me a chance to own quite a few higher end lip sticks and try different shades and brands. I highly recommend this lip set if you love a nude lip!

Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of these lip products or other Sephora Favorite sets!

Colourpop Satin Lips Review

colourpopreview

I was so excited to start using my new purchases from my Colourpop haul that I have been rocking their lippies for the last week. I have mostly been testing out their Ultra Satin Lip formula and decided to let you know my opinion on them!

On a side note though, has anyone been following the drama with Kathleen Lights and Jaclyn Hill? I really like Kathleen Lights and follow her on Instagram so when I saw you her apology I had to look up what the drama was about. I am quite disappointed that she used the N word but I can’t imagine living in a world where people Snapchat me all the time and people are constantly judging what I say, do and wear. YouTube has definitely made these girls famous and although I appreciate their makeup advice I have never really thought of them as people I look up to when it comes to lifestyles or morals. You only see such a small glimpse of who they really are on YouTube and social media. Anyways the reason I bring that up is because Kathleen Lights is the reason I even know what Colourpop is, as she has collaborated with them a few times and talks about them quite often on her channel.

Now on to the review:

I purchased three Ultra Satin Lip products, all in fairly pink/mauve nude colours as that tends to be my go-to! Below are the swatches of the colours on my lips.

Left: 951        Middle: Frick and Frack      Right: Echo Park

As you can see they are all quite neutral colours. The formula is pigmented and they dry down fairly well and appear creamy but not glossy. I did notice that they accentuate the texture of your lips, so when my lips are dry they are noticeably dry and cracked. They are not transfer proof or long wearing but they do wear down nicely without staining the lips or getting patchy or streaky.

I can honestly say I will reach for these often. I really enjoy the formula, it is not too drying and its very wearable for everyday. I like that they wear off well without it being too noticeable. They retail for $6 USD and offer great value for their low price! I highly recommend these.
